Services Offered

Broodmares and Foaling

Foaling is a very special time for mare owners.  We understand this at Henley Farms because we have our own cherished mares. With our experience, expertise, and exceptional care, we offer owners peace of mind and an array of services that can be tailored to an owner's specific needs.  Please contact us for 2025 rates.

Boarding Services

In addition to foaling services, Henley Farms offers longer term and year-round boarding for broodmares and foals. Subject to our intentionally limited capacity designed to preserve our hands-on approach, our facility includes 14x14 stalls, large paddocks with diamond mesh fencing and heated waterers. Every paddock has a run-in sheds and the grass is tested annually to monitor nutrients.

Additional Information

At Henley Farms, our priority, is the wellbeing of every animal under our care. When foaling, we take every precaution to ensure a safe delivery and a healthy mare and foal:

  • Staff members have delivered hundreds of foals.
  • Farm owners are present on the premises overseeing operations.
  • Mares are brought into the barn every evening beginning two weeks prior to due date.
  • Night watch staff is physically present in the barn every evening.
  • Cement block newly bedded foaling stalls are large - 14 x 14 - and cleaned daily.
  • Cameras monitor mares in the barn and in paddocks.
  • Emergency veterinary visits will be coordinated, if needed.
  • Immediate transportation to Rood & Riddle and to Hagyard – each of which is located within 10 minutes of the Farm – is available.
  • Mares will be limited in number so each receives the utmost care and attention.

It is recommended that mares arrive one month prior to their foaling date to help each mare acclimatize and to reduce any stress associated with the move.  Mares are grouped together by approximate due dates. Owners are given access to Farm cameras to monitor mares both in the paddock and in the stall. If requested, we will call or text owners at the time of delivery.  Owners are invited to witness the birth from a computer, phone, or tablet. Photos are also available.

Upon foal delivery:

  • Two (usually 4) qualified staff will be present at every birth.
  • Enema administered to prevent meconium impaction.
  • Colostrum quality testing.
  • Placenta preserved for veterinary examination.
  • Post placenta bag pain medication given to mare.
  • Assisted/Unassisted stand and nurse feedings.
  • Post-delivery umbilicus care.
  • Newborn foal and mare postpartum examinations.
  • Supplemental oxygen if needed.
  • Emergency transportation to Rood & Riddle or Hagyard Equine Hospital available.
